About the Department

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia possesses vast quantities of various raw materials that can be used to manufacture products of great importance, such as petroleum and petrochemicals, mixed metals and other essential products. Hence, the chemical engineer's role is significant in achieving the Kingdom's ambitions and aspirations and implementing industrial and economic development plans.

Therefore, the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering was established at the College of Engineering in Arar, Northern Border University, in 2008.

Currently, the Department offers an undergraduate program in Chemical Engineering (Bachelor of Science).

About the Chemical Engineering  (Bachelor of Science) Program

The Chemical Engineering  (Bachelor of Science) Program  of Northern Border University was implemented in 2008 as part of the College of Engineering, which consisted of five departments: Chemical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Vision

To be a nationally recognized chemical engineering program coupled with research strengths in different chemical engineering and advanced materials fields.

Mission

To prepare graduates to successfully practice the Chemical Engineering profession, to continue lifelong personal and professional development, and to contribute to the betterment of their society. ChEP provides its chemical engineering graduates with the tools, skills and competencies necessary to understand and apply recent technologies and become leaders in developing and organizing future technologies.

Chemical Engineering Program Educational Objectives

The graduates, within a few years of graduation, will attain the following:

1: Apply technical knowledge of chemical engineering for productive and ethical careers in chemical-related industries and organisations.

2: Apply high standards regarding international and community issues, including health, safety, and environmental protection.

3: Continually look for further education through professional activities and training.

Chemical Engineering Program Student Outcomes

1- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying engineering, science, and mathematics principles.

2- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

3- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

4- An ability to recognise ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

5- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.

6- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyse and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to conclude.

7- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
